Accidental freezing is a major cause of vaccine and biological waste during transit. Many liquid vaccines lose potency permanently if they drop below 0℃.
To combat this, manufacturers use two key methods:
Thermal Buffers: Implementing specialized interior partitions or cardboard layers that prevent direct contact between the medicine vials and the frozen gel packs.
Advanced PCMs (Phase Change Materials): Unlike standard water-based ice packs that freeze at 0℃, advanced PCMs are engineered to change phases at specific target temperatures (e.g., 5℃). This keeps the internal environment locked into the safe 2℃ to 8℃ range without any danger of sub-zero freezing.
